Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Based on anthropological literature, in particular case studies, from various Muslim societies (e.g. North Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia etc.) kinship and gender relations, social norms and practices, religious practices and institutions and many other aspects should be studied.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students are requested to present a paper (including a handout of 1 page) and to actively participate in the seminar. At the end of the seminar a written paper of max. 20 pages (in English or German) has to be submitted. Last deadline for submission of papers is end of March 2012.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

This seminar aims to highlight the enormous complexity of Muslim societies. Referring to issues such as kinship, family and gender, religion, economies, local, national and regional identities this divergence should be demonstrated.

Prüfungsstoff

English will be used as a means of communication.
