Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

After an introduction concrete themes will be offered, but can also be chosen independently.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

It will be required to produce a seminar paper of roughly 15 pages including bibliography (article length). The seminar will be held in English, but the paper can also be produce in German, if required. Papers shall be presented with a powerpoint presentation.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The Seminar focuses on the globalization of spiritual and socio-political movements, particularly Rastafari in Jamaic and the Baye Fall in Senegal. It aims to have a comparative perspective by taking popular music - most important for both movements - as a starting point. The topics will include historical questions, social agenda, worldviews, practices and the actual connections between both.
