Anthropology has relied on a variety of general intellectual orientations. One that has been relatively ignored, especially since the 1980s, is political economy. This lecture covers the main approaches within political economy, associated with Marx and Weber. It illustrates how they appear in different bodies of scholarly work and how they differ from the dominant approaches within anthropology over the past few decades.
