Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In the context of unequal conditions of knowledge production in the Global North and South, we revisit ideas and concepts regarding development - some lost or forgotten over the course of time, others transformed and re-emerged in recent years. Genuine contributions from Southern regions (Latin America, Asia and Africa) to the development discourse like conviviality, ethno-development, ubuntu, buen vivir and feminist perspectives will be critically analyzed.

Learning Outcomes
Awareness of the Global South debate on development and development studies.
• Evaluation of the validity of the criticisms regarding eurocentrism in the discourse on development.
• Ability to discuss the pros and cons of Global Southern efforts to indigenize the critique of development and its studies.
