Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

> Basic understanding of some technical aspects of taking photographs
> Planning small research projects
> Learning about aspects and consequences of photography, for example capture, selection etc.
> Exploring ideas concerning: photo observation, photo interview, photo inventory and photo social interaction
> By using various photographic material the students will enter into a collective examination of the photograph as object and its use as cultural product and how the picture can impact and affect perception, sociality and habits

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Verbal test supplemented by a small photographic project discussed in class.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The goal of this class is to give the students a basic understanding of how to interact in different photographic situations with the camera enabling them to gather pertinent information that can be used as research data in the field of Visual Anthropology.

Prüfungsstoff

In the process to gain a better understanding of Visual Anthropology the class will start with basic still camera techniques. To assure that all students are at the same technical level, assignments will be given to practice the technical part of photography, to learn about basic camera adjustments, to deal with different lighting situations, etc.
Exploring four aspects of Visual Anthropology (photo observation, photo interview, photo inventory and photo social interaction) as examples of the greater possibility of fieldwork. They are Photo Observation, Photo Interview, Photo Inventory and Photo Social Interaction. Through these mini projects the students achieve a basic feeling for the camera in the field dealing with its social and technical issues at the same time. The class will be taught in German and English.

Still camera techniques will be taught; therefore all students will need some type of camera!
