Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This class examines different ways of perceiving and conveying violence in multiple modes of articulation in visual and popular culture, from rock painting to computer game. Selected topics and significant examples are analyzed within their specific cultural/national contexts as well as by cross-cultural comparison and in regard of transnational meaning. Based on an overview of seminal theories on violence and visual analysis a particular emphasis of this class is on post-colonial perspectives in relation to visual expression.
