Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This lecture series aims at discussing theories relating to the state, nation-nationalism, and economics in the scope of present (neoliberal) crises.
If we look back at the beginning of globalization studies in anthropology, and other social sciences, there was a an expression of 'uncertainty' which was positively linked to the possibility of new social formations; e.g. Appadurai's concept of global cultural economy, and imagination as a characteristic of social life. Today, uncertainty is rather connected to disquiet and fear.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students may choose:

a) an exam: 1 compulsory question, and 2 questions to be selected among 3 others;

b) a presentation during the course.

Introduction into newer theories and concepts related to the state and neoliberalism

Prüfungsstoff

This is a lecture series, i.e. frontal course, students, however, may participate actively in presenting short articles which will be distributed at the first session.
