Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course provides students with basic information about the two anthropology programmes in Anthropology at the University of Vienna. After some basic introductions into the structure and aims of the program, the supervisors will introduce themselves and present their research interests. Based on their research projects, they will detail the process of conducting their research, from planning to implementation and data processing. Through the lectures and the reading of related compulsory literature, the students will explore a wide range of topics with special attention to the foci area of research in Vienna. The various units will introduce central anthropological thinking ranging from questions of politics and globalization to media, arts, and health. Particular attention is paid to research design, reflexivity and ethics in ethnographic research. Ultimately, the course will enable students formulate their own research interests and to plan their own ethnographic project.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The multiple choice exam consists of answering 36 examination questions within one hour. There are a total of 4 examination dates, 1st date at the end of April, further dates end of June and the winter term 2024.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Reading and understanding of the compulsory reading, understanding the orally presented course content.

Achieving at least 50% of the points in the exam is required to pass successfully.
• 100,00% - 87,00% = excellent
• 86,99% - 75,00% = good
• 74,99% - 63,00% = satisfactory
• 62,99% - 50,00% = sufficient
• 49,99% - 00,00% = not sufficient

Prüfungsstoff

The examination material consists of the content presented in the lecture and the compulsory reading.
