Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Hauptziel ist die inhaltliche/thematische und methodische Vorbereitung auf das geplante Feldpraktikum in Nov./Dez. 2018 (voraussichtlich) auf Lombok/Indonesien.
Hauptthemen des Feldpraktikums sind die Beziehungen zwischen Islam und balinesischen Hinduismus am Beispiel des von beiden Religionsgemeinschaften gemeinsam gefeierten Tempelfests in Lingsar. Dabei steht neben vielfältigen religiösen Ritualen der sog. Reispfannkuchenkrieg im Mittelpunkt. Im Seminar sollen individuelle Themen verteilt werden, die dann auch die Forschungsthemen des Feldpraktikums bilden sollen.
Das jeweilige Thema soll in größeren sozialen-, kulturellen-, ökonomischen-, historischen und politischen Rahmen erarbeitet werden.

Zweiter Schwerpunkt im Bereich der Methode ist die audiovisuelle Dokumentation vor allem durch Filmarbeit.

The main aim of this Seminar is the preparation for the field practice in Indonesia (Lombok, probably in November/December 2018). Key topics of this field practice are the relations between Islam and Balinese Hinduism. This will be researched and analysed on the example and in the course of the Perang Topat Festival in the multi-religious Pura Lingsar Tempel of Lombok. The highlight of the Festival is a ritual war with rice-cakes, which has been performed for generations, nurturing tolerance and understanding between the Hindu and Muslim communities. It is in essence a harvest festival that culminates in an elaborate costumed parade followed by a mock battle in which the weapon of choice is ketupat - balls of sticky rice wrapped in coconut leaves.

The seminar structure will divide up tasks that should ideally be followed up in the course of the field practice. The concrete research questions shall be studied in the wider social, cultural, economic, historical, and political context.

A second focus will be on the methodological aspects of audio-visual methods of documentation, particularly through filmmaking.

Important note: There will be a language class on Indonesian at the department organized by Gabriele Weichart.
