Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course is designed to explore how seemingly fantastical, near-human entities have become increasingly of interest to anthropologists over the last 25 years or so. We will discuss some of this work, as well as the theoretical roots of some of these interests, and how they are being reformed in the face of current crises, such the use of zombies as a resource for anti-vaxx conspiracy-thinking around Covid.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assignment is a 3500-4000 word (14-16 double-spaced pages) term paper due at the end of the semester (70 %) Attendance is obligatory (30%). Both parts of the assessement criteria have to be fulfilled.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

• 91-100 points - 1 (excellent)
• 81-90 points - 2 (good)
• 71-80 points - 3 (satisfactory)
• 61-70 points - 4 (sufficient)
In order to complete the course, one needs to obtain at least 61 points.

Prüfungsstoff

The topic of the term paper has to be agreed on with the course convener.
