Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Indonesian course is aimed to facilitate students who want to learn Indonesian language. It is focused on 4 language skills which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Listening and reading are the receptive skills, whereas writing and speaking are the productive skills. There are ten units that will be learned in the beginner level or BIPA 1 (it is used for A1 students and also A2 students who continue learning the next topic). Moreover, B1 class and B2 class will use Sahabatku Indonesia book BIPA 3 and 4 level or B1 and B2 level. It consists of variety topics with different kind of text that will be learnt by students such as descriptive text about tourism places, recount text about celebration or festival, etc. The teacher uses Genre Based Approach during learning activity. It involves four stages which are Building Knowledge of the Field, Modeling, Joint Construction, and Independent Construction. The number of tasks may be different in each stage to optimalize the role of the stage. To maintain clarity, each stage is outlined below.

Building Knowledge of the Field (BKOF)
Building knowledge of the field aims to build students background knowledge and thus the focus is mainly on the “content” of the topic they are going to communicate. The activities in BKOF mainly involve reading and listening. In this stage, the teacher’s role is very dominant as he/she scaffolds them carefully to get the students be able to work independently.

Modeling or Deconstruction
Modeling is the stage where students are introduced to a text type they are going to communicate. In this stage, the teacher explains the genre of the text, including its purpose and social contexts. The teacher also explains the text structure, functions as well as language features of the text they are learning.

Joint Construction
Joint construction is the next stage in which students apply their understanding of the genre in focus by cooperating with other students. Despite its importance, this stage can be skipped if necessary, particularly when students have shown good performance individually to write and speak on the topic they focus on.

Independent Construction
Independent construction is the stage in which students are able to work individually on a task given. In this case, students should be able to understand the social purpose of the type of text they learnt and to write and speak with appropriate text structure and language features of the text type they have learnt.
