It is important to focus on developing the oral proficiency of students as it helps them present and communicate their ideas and concepts to others efficiently. Besides, certain speaking activities can encourage those students who are shy or hesitant to speak in the classroom environment and build their self-confidence. Teachers will identify the challenges students face while communicating in a classroom environment.
The teaching methods are based on the communication approach that emphasizes the use of language in accordance with a communication language function. In class the teacher will be a facilitator involving encouraging students to speak and engage in classroom learning.
Typical activities of this approach are: discussing some of the newest issues, current news in Indonesia, problem-solving tasks, and role-play. The role of the teacher is that of a guide, a facilitator or an instructor.
After having completed Kelas Kongkow 2, the students will be fluent and confident in speaking Indonesian. They will no longer have problems with the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar functions.
