Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Even though human rights apply to all human beings, there are special conventions and guarantees in place in order to protect persons in specific situations. This course is designed to zoom in on the existing human rights protection mechanisms for groups in vulnerable situations and elaborate on current undertakings to further strengthen current protection standards.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

* Essay (Session "Human Rights and the LGBTQI Movement" March 17th 2022, with Prof Andreas Ziegler)
Participants will need to write a short essay (max. 3 pages) on a topic chosen in class. The paper will need to be handed in within three weeks, but no later than Thursday, 7th of April at 23.59 CET on Moodle.
In addition to the three pages, students must hand in a bibliography containing all used sources. At least two additional sources must be listed to those already provided during the class.

* Session: "Imprisonment as Punishment not for Punishment Prisoners’ Rights are Human Rights" with Philipp Hamedl and Nora Kantona: Students will be asked to sign up for a group and topic on moodle by 1st of March and then will need to write a paper of 4 pages. Specific instructions will be given on moodle by 1.3.2022. In class, each group will have to deliver a 5 minute presentation on their findings. * Session: "The Rights of Indigenous Peoples" Prof. Kuppe: Participants will have to answer short reflection questions on the mandatory reading before the session and will need to hand them in on Moodle. Participants will find these questions online on Moodle prior to the session and can earn up to 10 extra credit points.
