Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course is a complement to the VO Advanced Statistical Physics and Soft Matter Physics (2024W).
In this course students will put in practice the theoretical notions learned in the main course, through theoretical and computational exercises.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

One problem set will be distributed every week and it will be due 1 or 2 weeks later. Each student must update on Moodle the solutions of the problems. The problems will be then discussed in class. Students must present their solutions to the problems at the board, explaining to other students the reasoning behind their results and answering questions. All students participate to the discussion.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The grade of the course is decided by the number of uploaded problems on Moodle, by the quality of the presentation(s) in class and by a final test.

To get a positive grade, at least 60% of problem solutions must be uploaded.
Points are assigned based on the following scheme for the number of uploaded exercises:
60-68% uploaded: 1 point
69-76% uploaded: 2 points
77-84% uploaded: 3 points
85-92% uploaded: 4 points
92-100% uploaded: 5 points
Random checks on uploaded exercises will be performed to assess the quality of the uploaded solutions.

Each student must present at least once to obtain a positive grade.
Each presentation can contribute up to 5 points.

Details on the final test will be given during the course.
The result of the test yields up to 10 points.

The course is considered failed if less than 10 points are reached summing up the three contributions.
The final grade is calculated using the following key:
0-9 points: 5 ("Unsatisfactory")
10-11 points: 4 ("Sufficient")
12-14 points: 3 ("Satisfactory")
15-17 points: 2 ("Good")
18-20 points: 1 ("Excellent")
