Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course is a student seminar that introduces the basic theory of Lie algebras, and explores some applications in physics. Students collaboratively prepare and give talks on specific topics, in such a way that later talks can build on earlier ones.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

To get credits for this course, each student gives one talk and produces a write-up of a talk by another student. All write-ups are combined into a single, cross-referenced document that is collaboratively written. Attendance is the default. Participation in the discussions is encouraged.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The talks and the write-ups contribute equally to the final grade. 15% of the grade is determined by contributions to discussions and question sessions during the seminar, and to the collaborative writing effort.
