260098 PUE Scientific Computing (2021S)

The topics of the corresponding lecture "Scientific Computing" are applied in exercises. The exercises consist of creating computer programs for the numerical solution of problems in the fields of numerical mathematics (systems of linear equations, error and convergence analysis, regression analysis, solution of nonlinear equations, linear eigenvalue problems, interpolation, numerical differentiation, numerical integration, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations).

The programming environment is Python. Students are asked to have Python installed on their laptops before the first class (March 19), and to have basic knowledge of Python coding.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCE from the FIRST SESSION (March 19) will lead to immediate and automatic deregistration!

There are a total of 13 sessions organized as follows (more details in Moodle):
- In the first class students revise the basics of Python.
- The second class, and every second class after that, will be a hands-on session where students work on the assigned exercises and can ask questions to the teacher and the tutor.
- The third class, and every second class after that, will be a presentation class where the programs are explained and discussed.
