Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course will provide basics on programming with the focus on the needs of physicists. Programming is essential in many areas of physics ranging from numerical simulations through data analysis to control of scientific equipment.

It is practically impossible to carry out a career in physics or related fields without the need to ever write or understand computer code. The example language used during the course is Python.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

UPDATE: The exam will be a programming tasks to be carried out as a take-home-exam. Instructions will be provided through moodle or email at the beginning of the exam. The solution needs to be submitted within 24h of the exam finishing time (to allow for solving any possibly arising technological issues).

The course will be assessed via a written exam involving a programming task. It is encouraged to bring a laptop computer to the exam.

If the best grade is achieved in the associated PUE, this will increase the exam grade by one. This bonus point only applies to the first two exams after the course.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

50% of the total points at the final exam.

Prüfungsstoff

The course is to be regarded as one, single and inseparable entity together with the associated exercise class 260103-4. The material discussed in class will be put in practise in the exercises, which is the only way to actually learn programming.
