Oral examination covering the topics given in the contents. Requirements for a positive assessment are a thorough understanding of the relevant physical phenomena, presenting and processing the information using graphs and calculations where appropriate, and drawing valid conclusions supported by justification.

Lecture to be used for bachelor and master studies. Recommended as preparation for "Materials Physics Lab Course and Lab Course Low Dimensional Solids. Education in important phenomena of Materials Physics and of their physical backgrounds, and in most important materials. Understanding of connections between structure and properties of materials, especially mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. Correlation between structural defects and material properties in graphene and other low-dimensional materials.COURSE CONTENTS
PHENOMENA: Diffusion in Materials, Thermally Activated Processes: Growth, Recovery & Recrystallisation, Coarsening, Determination of Activation Enthalpy, Strength Of Materials At Different Deformation Temperatures: Thermal Activation of Dislocation Motion, Kinetics of Phase Formation: Nucleation, Spinodal Decomposition, Martensitic Phase Transition & Shape Memory Effect
MATERIALS: Steels, Ceramics & Glasses, Micro & Nanocrystalline Materials (Metals, Polymers), Graphene-based materials (single- and multiwalled carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, mono-, bi- and few-layer graphene), other 2D materials (mono-layer h-BN, transition metal dichalcogenides, silicene, phosphorene)COURSE METHODS
