Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This seminar will introduce Masters students to four research-based teaching approaches:
1) Tutorials in Introductory Physics (TIPs), a set of guided worksheets designed to improve student conceptual understanding by targetting misconceptions;
2) Open Source Tutorials (OSTs), a set of guided worksheets designed to improve student views about the nature of physics knowledge and learning;
3) Hypothesis Experiment Class (HEC), a teaching approach aiming to increase student enjoyment and interest in science;
4) Investigative Science Learning Environment (ISLE), an approach designed to help students develop in their ability to design and interpret experiments.

In addition to hands-on practice using this curriculum, MS students will also learn the theory behind the curricular designs, by contrasting the approaches with each other and by reading relevant journal articles and teachers' guides.
