Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In living systems, transition metal complexes provide the active centers of several enzymes (“metalloenzymes”) which catalyze important reactions like 2H+/H2 conversion ([FeFe] and [NiFe] hydrogenases), nitrogen fixation (nitrogenases), interconversion of CO2 and CO by the CO-dehydrogenase and methylation of CO by the acetyl CoA synthase. These metalloenzymes are characterized by the fact that they exhibit a transition metal-carbon bond or are forming a metal-carbon bond during the activation of the substrate. This course is offered as a supplement to the lecture “Bioinorganic Chemistry”.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The lecture shall provide insight into the central role of organometallic compounds in organisms. A selection of examples shall help to understand the strong link between organometallic chemistry and enzymatic reactions mediated by transition metal complexes. The lecture will be held in English.
