Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course supports the writing of the bachelor's thesis in astronomy/astrophysics.

Procedure:
- Choose a thesis topic at or before semester start. Topics are listed on Moodle and updated regularly. Custom topics can be discussed with faculty members or advanced PhD candidates. Topic acceptance is confirmed once the supervisor registers the student on Moodle.
- The first session introduces thesis writing.
- Regular meetings with supervisors are mandatory.
- The tutorial assists in preparing the written thesis and oral presentation.
- Submit at least one thesis draft to the supervisor before the final submission.
- Final presentations occur in small groups.

Course Objectives:
- Acquire knowledge independently for a specific research question.
- Conduct independent data and literature analyses.
- Contextualize and differentiate personal research within existing studies.
- Interpret and discuss research results logically.
- Plan steps for further research.
- Present research in written and oral formats according to scientific standards.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

- The final version of the bachelor thesis will be evaluated by the supervisor.
- The final presentation will take place in small groups and will be evaluated by the attending committee.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Assessment criteria:
Written thesis: 80%
Final presentation: 20%

Grading scheme
100-88 %: grade 1
87-75 %: grade 2
74-63 %: grade 3
62-50 %: grade 4
< 50 %: grade 5 (failed)

Prüfungsstoff

After the final presentation, the candidate will receive questions about the topic of the thesis and closely related topics.

Literatur

Literature on the topic of the bachelor thesis is provided by the supervisors.
