Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course “Planets and exoplanets” encompasses the main topic of contemporary exoplanetology: exoplanets’ formation in the protoplanetary disks, stability of newly formed planetary systems, the role of host stars for atmospheric escape and atmospheres’ survivability and, finally, current & planned ground-based and space-based observations. The course discusses similarities and differences between the Solar system and known exoplanetary systems and their potential for habitability. The course includes lectures and exercise sessions related to materials presented in the lectures. The lecture and exercises happen in-person except if teachers would have to quarantine due to COVID-19 and other exception cases that will be informed about in advance.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The students can earn 100 points maximum: 60 points are assigned based on the results of the two exams (one mid-semester, one at the end of semester), 30 points are assigned based on the participation in exercise sessions (30 points: black board, presentation, crosslist) and 10 points: 75% attendance of lectures and exercises. To successfully complete the course, the students have to accumulate more than 50 points. The exams will contain solving the problems similar to those presented during the exercise sessions and answering general questions on the course material.Homework submission
Students have to upload their solutions for grading on the platform Moodle. Solutions and new problems will be discussed during the following exercise session. In addition to that, students have to mark in a list on the Moodle page those exercises that they have prepared and that they are willing to present and discuss (“crosslist”).
