Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Students will be able to work with observational data or create theoretical models and simulations to answer scientific astronomical questions. Students will have acquired the knowledge to present their results orally and in writing and to answer research questions in a logical and evidence-based manner. Students will work closely with their supervisor throughout the semester. At the end they will have the opportunity to present their work in small groups (3-4 students and corresponding supervisors) to discuss their progress and exchange ideas.
During the semester the students are expected to carry out, and ideally finalize, their Master’s project in close work with their supervisors.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will have to achieve significant progress in their MA’s project. At the end of the semester they will present their results in a talk in small groups (4 students, 4 supervisors).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The final grade will consist of two parts: the progress in the Master project achieved during the semester (50%, grade provided by the supervisor with an assessment rubric) and the final presentation (50%, grade provided by all supervisors present at the talk with an assessment rubric). Both need to be positive in order to pass the course. The final grade is the average of both parts:
1: 89-100%
2: 76-88%
3: 63-75%
4: 51-62%
5: 0-50%
