Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The VU “Basics in Earth Surface Dynamics and Management” is structured in blocks primarily based on different methodological approaches essential for applied geomorphology. While those thematic blocks might vary from year to year, they always combine lectures with a considerable portion of exercises (at least one third). The lectures and exercises will be held by respective experts of the working group Geomorphological Systems and Risk Research (ENGAGE).
Thus, the VU prepares the students with different backgrounds for the specialization "Earth Surface Dynamics and Management" – in theory and practice. During those blocks, potential topics for Masters’ theses will be incorporated and introduced to inspire the students early during the Master’s program.

Methodology: theory, exercises; to minor degree: field and laboratory courses, GIS and modelling

Content:
10/10/2023 - Introduction (Janek Walk)
17-31/10/2023 - Block 1: Multi-risk assessment and management (Thomas Glade, Philipp Marr, Robert Kanta)
07-21/11/2023 - Block 2: Basics of connectivity and hydromorphometry (Ronald Poeppl, Janek Walk)
28/11-12/12/2023 - Block 3: Monitoring and modelling of landslides (Edoardo Carraro, Alejandra Jiménez Donato)
09-23/01/2024 - Block 4: Quaternary and Holocene climate and landscape reconstruction (Janek Walk)
30/01/2024 - Exam
