Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The VO focuses on the state of the art of natural hazards and risk research, and the links between science and practice. Widely used methods for hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment for a range of natural processes and their application on the phases of disaster cycle will be presented and issues such as risk governance, risk perception and risk communication will be discussed. Special emphasis will be given to climate and global environmental change and its impact on natural hazards and their consequences.

The aim of the VO is to:
-give an overview of risk terminology and the phases of disaster cycle (impact, prevention and mitigation, response and recovery).
-demonstrate the links between science and practice
-introduce widely used methods for hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment
-present natural processes and their impact on the built environment as well as their social and economic effects.
-discuss the impacts of global environmental change on natural hazards and their consequences
