Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course will provide the students with an overview on relevant governance theories and strategic development approaches in the field of sustainability transitions. As the term “governance” related to sustainable development is recognized as a complex and multi-dimensional concept in recent literature, the course will apply a systemic approach and a multi-level perspective, tackling upon governance modes and principles from local policies up to mission-orientated policies set at higher spatial scales and their respective logics. Special emphasis will be put on strategy development principles in a context-specific and place-based manner. Consequently, the course consists of three different parts and related scientific activities:
1) State-of-the-art: Theoretical foundation (Literature study and readings on relevant governance theories and approaches)
2) Analysis of policy documents (along a jointly developed analysis framework)
3) Outline of a sustainability strategy for a specific region
