Introduction: What is a model and what is it good for? How to build one? How to analyze it?
Key areas of theoretical evolutionary biology: selection, drift, mutation, recombination, quantitative genetics, optimization, evolutionary game theory, adaptive dynamics;

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Get an understanding of the scopes and limits of theoretical approaches to evolutionary biology. Be able to read and understand the relevant literature. Only basic mathematical background is required.

Prüfungsstoff

Mainly lectures. May involve some exercises on paper or computer. After an introduction of the basic methods, the course will be structured according to biological questions, with additional methods being introduced along the way.
