Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The lecture/course will teach and discuss different levels of orthologies and phylogenetic relationships. Not only orthology at gene and protein levels defines genetic relationships, but also orthology of whole chromosomes, noncoding elements, repetitive structures etc. Emerging fields in comparative genomics is the integration of those different orthology types.
The class will build groups of 3 persons each, that will focus on characterization of individual orthology type (e.g., one group working on chromosomal orthology, another on protein orthology etc). Prior experience with Linux or bioinformatic course attendance is expected.

Presentation at the end of the course and a written report

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Prior bioinformatic experience or basic experience with linux is required. Knowledge of basic molecular evolutionary principles and orthology/paralogy concepts (as taught in various lectures, such as Molecular Evolution) is required.
Compulsory attendance, active participation, written protocol
