Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Did you know that around 45% of atmospherical oxigen is produced by algae? This exercise offers insights into the fascinating world of algae, a group which is significantly involved in global flow patterns. Major algae groups will be discussed and important representatives will be introduced (light microscope and SEM). Additionally, we offer an introduction into phylogenetic analyses and latest results of algal relationships. Language will be either German or English according to requirements.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Knowledge of the most important algal grous and some characteristic representatives, use of algal identification keys, introduction into algae preparation, practical experiences in presentation

Prüfungsstoff

field collection of algae and measurements of some environmental variables, light and electron microskopy, Microfotography, use of appropriate computer programs
