Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course takes place at the Ruđer Bošković Institute for Marine Research in Rovinj, Croatia from 4 - 15 September 2023.

Groups of up to 4 students will work on a current topic in Microbial Oceanography. This includes hands-on training to determine the abundance and activity of microbes in samples collected in the waters off Rovinj. Introductory lectures will be given on the specific topics and the measurements being performed. The results of the research projects are to be presented in talks at the end of the course. Finally, the research is summarized in a manuscript structured as a scientific publication.
The overall goal is to get an introduction on how field research works, from the planning phase to the writing phase.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Participation during the course (30%), oral presentation of the research topic (20%), manuscript (50%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Participants should have taken the exams in Meereskunde and Microbial Oceanography prior to attending the course.
