The first lecture will be provided online because of travel constraints from the US to Austria (i.e. I am hosting an event at Yale just before the beginning of the course and can not travel to be in Vienna to do the first lecture in person). The remaining lectures are panned to be in person, University policies permitting.

Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This is the continuation of the Comparative Developmental Anatomy of Vertebrates from WS 2021/22, where the majority of the lectures were focussed on general topics like tissue organization, phylogeny, etc. In this second part we will continue with the discussion of specific organ systems, with a evolutionary and developmental perspective.
This course will be in a traditional lecture format, and most of the lectures will be in person, if the University policies allow that.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The "Leistungskontrolle" will be on the basis of a synthetic essay on a topic in the course. The essay will be up to 3 pages and on a topic that covers several themes in the lecture course.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Understanding of the facts comunicated and discussed during the course and how they relate to the overall theme of developmental evolution of vertebrates.

Prüfungsstoff

All the content of the course, the slides and recordings, will be made available to the students via Moodle (spelling?)

Literatur

There are no books that exactly cover the content of the course. But a useful backup reading is the book by K. Liem, W. Bemis, W. F. Walker, and L. Grande. Functional Anatomy of Vertebrates:
an evolutionary perspective.
