Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Chromosomes are the central steering units of living organisms. Despite their complexities,
they have become amenable to genetic, cell biological and even biochemical investigation.
As the field expands rapidly, chromosomes become more and more important in medicine
(as causative agents for disorders, as biomarkers for cancer and hereditary diseases and
as targets of gene therapy), in industry (synthetic biology, pathway assemblies)
and most importantly in basic research (where topics like genome stability, gene regulation
and epigenetics, as well as chromosome transmission continue to make fast progress).

In this course, every year one (different) focus will be identified close to the beginning of the course
and studied in depth during the course. Preliminary focus 2017: Pathway choice in repair &recombination. As an output, a joint review type document and a
literature list will be prepared. All participants have to have good knowledge of chromosome biology and must contribute to the aims.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assessment will be deduced from the following sub assessments:
Successful completion of assigned work packages, presentations and final exam.
