First meeting (Vorbesprechung) Jan 13, 2014 at 5pm in the CUBE-Seminarraum 2.257 (Computational Systems Biology, UZA1, 2. Ebene, Spange 4). Participation in this first meeting is mandatory.
The seminar is takes place from Feb 17 until Feb 21, (9-17 each day) in the Seminar room 2D404 (UZA2, Althanstr. 14).

Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

1) Next generation sequencing methods
2) Variability in genomes: genome resequencing and SNP calling
3) Quantitative functional genomics RNASeq; Data normalization, differential expression, clustering, functional interpretation.
Basic knowledge in Bioinformatics and Genomics (as e.g. teached in lecture 300311) are required. Basic knowledge in quantitative methods in molecular biology, mathematical ans statistical methods (as e.g. teached in lecture 300010) are required.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Report (to be written in workgroups).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Understanding the basic principles of next-generation sequencing methods and related bioinformatic approaches for qualitative and quantitative analysis of DNA and RNA; practical application of popular software tools to sample data, critical evaluation and interpretation of results.

Prüfungsstoff

Literature seminars on relevant papers, practical work using representative bioinformatic software, statistical analysis and data visualization.
