Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course is developed to strengthen the methodological and analytical skills of the students. We cover all the different phases of scientific research with a specific focus on the field of Cognitive Biology, including: (1) study design, (2) methods in basic ethology, comparative psychology and neuroscience (3) basic background on purpose and meaning/interpretation of statistics, (4) manuscript writing, (5) the process of peer-review, and (6) presentation skills.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The participants will be asked to participate during the lecture block (compulsory), to hand in written assignments, make a presentation and to take part in a final exam.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Prüfungsstoff
The course comprises a combination of lectures, individual work, and group work/discussion. Based on lectures students will work on assignments in small groups and or alone. Students will be evaluated based on participation and in-class assignments, a written home assignment, a presentation, and a written final examination at the end of the course.
