Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The participants discuss problems of biodiversity and ecosystems research, based on contemporary papers.
The course topics will be visible on moodle from end of September 2022 on. Please, choose a topic and send a mail with your choice from 22. September on when the list of participants has become available on u:space to the topic-affiliated lecturer (first come, first serve).
After choosing a topic, you shall get in contact to the respective lecturer who will guide you in the next steps. In fact, based on the topic and the one review paper provided, the students are asked to search at least 2 more papers and prepare a well structured presentation. Each seminar will consist of 2 presentations; each presentation (20-25 minutes) is based on 2-3 publications of the topic. Each talk also includes the preparation of (1) a short handout including the framework of the talk (1 page), and (2) a summary of the main issues presented, giving an overview of the topic (1-2 pages). Handout and summary should be mailed to all participants at least one day before the seminar.

Attendance control, handout, presentation of the chosen topic.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Following the ductus of the chosen manuscripts, students deal with the methodological aspects of the paper, explain field and laboratory techniques and interprete the data and hypothesis testing. Furthermore, the participants practice the handling of "scientific English" and train presentation and discussion skills.

Prüfungsstoff

Guided preparation, presentations in the framework of video conferences, discussion.

Will be provided at the start of the seminar.
