Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The first part of the lecture presents the theoretical background and methodology of phytosociology. Topics include the filter-model of the plant community, sampling design, deductive and inductive classification, vegetation databases, numerical methods, the association concept, character and differential species, constancy and fidelity, syntaxonomy, nomenclature. In the second part of the lecture, an overview of the vegetation types of Central Europe is given.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Written exam (oral upon request).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Understanding the theory and methods of vegetation classification; knowing how to apply vegetation and habitat typologies; getting a basic overview of the plant communities of Central Europe.

Prüfungsstoff

Lecture using Powerpoint presentations.

Literatur

Will be provided in the first lecture.
