Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Not only for developmental biology, this course provides a theoretical and practical understanding of microscopy and digital imaging in biosciences research, including using image processing software. Topics will include optical and other modalities of microscopic visualization, digital image acquisition and manipulation, and 3D methods and analysis, with particular emphasis on practical applications. Additional topics may be covered according to students' interests.
The course format is an interactive seminar with lectures, discussion, and in-class exercises, both practical and theoretical.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Discussion of homework exercises, individual short presentations of assigned topics, and in-class practical work.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Evaluation is based on attendance and participation (2/3) and completion of homework assignments (1/3). Attendance is required: two absences (excused or unexcused) will be allowed before your grade is affected (approx. 1 grade point per additional absence).

There will be weekly reading and homework assignments, some of which will include a written assignment to be collected in class. These will be graded and will account for 1/3 of the final mark.

Prüfungsstoff

Class participation, homework assignments, in-class exercises, presentations (prüfungsimmanent - no exam).

Literatur

Weekly reading assignments of scientific papers, selected resources on scientific imaging and microscopy.
