Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Aims: Acquirement of theoretical knowledge of contemporary methods used in molecular and cellular immunobiology.
Content: The participants will review current methods to study immune responses and their regulation at the cellular and organismal level. The methods include the generation and use of transgenic animals in immunology (e.g. cre-based approaches, DT-mediated depletion, fate mapping), genome engineering & gene targeting in immunology, and imaging (2-photon, bioluminescence, mass cytometry, microfluidics).
Lectures by lecturers introducing methods and providing theoretical background. Presentations by students of key research papers employing the techniques discussed in the course.
Requirements: lecture "VO Research topics in Molecular Microbiology, Microbial Ecology and Immunobiology" (see curriculum)
The seminar is highly recommended for students who plan to attend the "Practical Course in Molecular and Cellular Immunobiology": in case of overregistration for the practical course, students who completed the seminar will be preferentially accepted.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The following aspects are evaluated: active participation in the course, quality of the presentation and ability to ask and answer questions, ability to summarize presented studies, final exam.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Minimum requirements: Attendance, presentation of a publication, final exam

Assessment criteria:
40% exam
40% ability to present key findings and techniques of the paper, and ability to answer questions
20% chalk-talk summary of one of the presentations

Each of the evaluated parts must be completed with a positive grade.
