Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Emerging evidence indicates that the gut microbiome is intricately linked to the brain, influencing neural development, behavior, and cognitive function. We will discuss current evidence for how the microbiome affects brain function throughout lifespan in the context of health and disease. We will also discuss options to modulate the microbiome to prevent or slow down brain disorders and cognitive decline to promote healthy aging.
In this seminar, the students will present cutting-edge research papers on the gut-brain axis and critically discuss research findings.
The students will be able to:
• understand the key concepts of the gut-brain axis
• identify key points from journal articles
• critically appraise journal articles
• interpret data in figures and tables
• summarize journal articles in their own words
• present scientific literature
• formulate ideas for future research
• formulate discussion questions
• participate in academic discourse regarding gut-brain axis research
