Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Practice of various "micro" listening skills: listening for gist (general meaning), listening for specific information, coping with unknown vocabulary, understanding "hidden" or implied meaning, as well as practice at note-taking, summarising, extrapolating information.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
There will be three elements of assessment:
1) Participation in class. Successful candidates must be judged to have been active and constructive participants in class.
2) A mid-term assessment of listening comprehension skills.
3) An assessment of listening comprehension and analysis skills at the end of the semester.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
To improve students' confidence and efficiency with their listening, to help them cope with difficult or unknown vocabulary, to expsoe them to several different types of listening texts and several different English accents and registers.
Prüfungsstoff
Students will be presented with different types of authentic listening texts, and through performing a variety of tasks based on those texts, will be able to analyse and comprehend them. Students will also be expected to listen regularly to English language discourse outside class. There will be several homework assignments in which students will be expected to listen to and analyse such discourse.
