Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

OBJECTIVES
Students will learn to understand and analyse oral texts. They will also be briefly introduced to note taking and consecutive interpreting to get a first idea what interpreting is all about.

CONTENT
Students will practice active listening and understanding texts and will be expected to summarize oral texts and present their own texts in line with given instructions.

METHODS
Work in class will be both intralingual (English) and interlingual (English - German). Students will mostly work with a partner or in small groups to prepare assignments and present their work to the group for discussion and comparison.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Regular attendance is mandatory (two absences allowed).
Active participation in class is expected.
Overall grading will be based on the following:
- 1 mid-term test (20%)
- 1 final test (30%)
- 1 group presentation (25%)
- 1 individual presentation (25%)
Students must attain a passing grade on three of the four components above (60% cutoff)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Excellent knowledge of working languages.

Prüfungsstoff

Students are expected to apply the theoretical input given in class to new genres and unprepared texts/speeches.
