Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
On completing this course, students should be able to:
- demonstrate that they have insights into the basic textual concepts introduced in the course and are able to apply them to the analysis of a text
- produce a written text product in English which meets the conventions of the given text genre
- account for the strategies chosen in the product on the basis of the theories and methods relating to the course
- produce a text product and a textual analysis in fluent English (without any significant lexical or grammatical errors that may constitute a barrier to communication or understanding the texts)

Prüfungsstoff
lectures, (class) discussions of texts and exercises prepared at home, group assignments, feedback on written assignments, (grammar) workshops may be included, course is accompanied by a tutorial which students are expected to attend

- give students insights into the basic elements and concepts that are necessary to understand, interpret, produce and communicate various types of professional texts
- provide students with theoretical knowledge of the overall characteristics of texts
- equip students with methods for identifying the genre and purpose of a professional text on the basis of a number of parameters for analysis (e.g. structure, appeal forms, speech acts, stylistic features and lexical choices)
- enable students to apply the theories and methods of the course to their own text production
