We will be looking at texts of from different stages in the development of cultures where English has been primarily spoken as a first language as well the influence of 'English' as a language and culture of imperialism and globalisation.Accordingly, we will be reading, looking at and listening to different textual expressions from cultures which do not necessarily correspond to the conventional concept of 'the English-speaking world'.
This will be an interactive lecture. in other words, you will be expected to read, look at and/or listen to texts independently as well as during the lecture.
We will discuss together which texts to analyse and from which perspective/s this should be done.
