Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course will follow the course of art in the United States in the 20th Century. We will discuss the political situation and ultimately how this effected the art scene from 1950's to the present day. We will follow Howard Zinn historically.

OPTION - South African art -- this will be discussed in class

The student will be assessed by 1. attending class 2. participation in class 3. class assignments - quizes 4. oral presentation 5. written presentation

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The goals of this course are to understand how art has influenced America and Americans to this day. Why this concept is so important and where it came from.

Prüfungsstoff

Learning through communication. There will be group and individual discussions, analysis of artwork, reading with verbal and written communication of what has been read. Interactive participation in class is essential
