Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course will follow the course of art in the United States in the 20th Century. We will discuss the political situation and ultimately how this effected the art scene from 1920 onwards. We will look at the 2nd World War, the Cold War and how American art became independent from Europe. We will then go on to examine how American art influenced the art around the globe. Finally we will look at the develolpment of art markets and how auctions effect the art world today.

The student will be assessed by 1. attending class 2. participation in class 3. class assignments - quizes 4. oral presentation 5. written presentation
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The goals of this course are to understand the complex message given and received through art, how the United States has become a powerful and competitive art market, how art influences us, how artists are influenced by their social and political situation. To learn new expressions which are used within the art world.
Prüfungsstoff
Learning through communication. There will be group and individual discussions, analysis of artwork, reading with verbal and written communication of what has been read. Interactive participation in class is essential
