Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

We will cover the American lifestyle as shown in the artwork and architecture of the newly formed nation. We will follow Howard Zinn's book "A People's History" covering the historical background of a nation as it slowly moves away from Europe and focuses on its own challenges. American attitudes today are based on these founding years.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Each student will hold a speech, hand in a paper on a specific subject and there will be a quiz. Further, students will need to keep track of new words in form of a glossary. These will all be used to assess the students progress and form the final grade. Attendance is required and missing more than 2 times will result in the grade being dropped by one grade point. More than 3 times will result in failing the class.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

To understand why especially Europeans came to America. To become acquainted with American attitudes as shown in art and architecture. To have a clearer understanding of why American's have values that differ from Europeans. To communicate these in class with colleagues.

Prüfungsstoff

Communication: speaking in class. Group work, individual research and translation of vocabulary throughout Zinn book.
