Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Historical evolution of the Chinese diplomacy since 1912;
Important events in the history of Chinese diplomacy from the end of the feudal system and the founding of the Republic of China to the People's Republic at present;
Evaluation of the events and their influence on the development of China's foreign policy concept

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The final assessment will consist of three parts: group Preparation and presentation 25%; performance in class 15%, final exam 60%.

The final exam will take place in the last week of the semester. The students have one week to write their papers on a given topic and shall hand them in at the last lecture time.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The objective of this course is to let the students acquire basic knowledge about Chinese diplomacy from the start of the Republic to the present day. The course is aimed at deepening the understanding of the students of the Chinese history and politics and it will serve as an introduction to scientific study of sinology. Through the learning process, the ability of the students to do China Studies is envisaged to be trained and enhanced.

Prüfungsstoff

Students will form different groups. They be given reading material or reference books for the preparation before the lectures. In class before each lecture, students of one group shall present their reading and analysis of the content for about 15 minutes. After each lecture, time will be allocated for questions and answers as well as discussion. Every student should be prepared to answer questions on subjects under consideration and present his/her own views.
