Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Objectives:
Students will have improved their presentation and speaking skills in standard English;
They will have pinpointed their weaknesses in oral communication and act accordingly;
Students will have expanded their active vocabulary;
Students will have improved their accuracy and fluency;
Content:
Relevant social, cultural and political issues on a local and global scale; Topics chosen by students;
Methods:
teacher input, pair work, group work (case study), individual presentations, group discussions, and role plays;

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Assessment is based on individual presentations (30%), contributions to discussions (20%), participation in role plays (30%), and providing feedback on other students' performance (20%).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grading scale:
90-100%: 1
80-89%: 2
70-79%: 3
60-69%: 4
0 - 60%: 5 (fail)
Students need at least 60% of the total score for a pass grade. Attendance is obligatory (see Statute of the University of Vienna). Students are allowed 2 absences provided they present valid evidence.

Prüfungsstoff

Continuous assessment (all assignments and contributions count towards the final grade).
