On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- describe the specific nature of audiovisual translation and media accessibility, in particular the way in which sound, image and subtitles work together;
- display awareness of the linguistic, cultural, professional and political issues involved in these fields;
- display awareness of the constraints involved in interlingual and monolingual subtitling, as well as audio description;
- demonstrate specific hands-on audio description and subtitling skills e.g. text compression, spotting/cueing, chunking ;
- conform to and apply conventions of good practice;
- make informed choices on the basis of genre, purpose, and intended audience;
- use relevant software individually or in teams to complete tasks respecting a given brief;
- orient themselves in the specific research literature.
