Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The Seminar shall provide the students with an insight into torture and enforced disappearances. The definition of torture and enforced disappearances as well as relevant UN treaties and regional treaties will be discussed in detail. Furthermore, we will have a closer look at important organs and institutions trying to combat torture and enforced disappearances. Lastly, we will also examine situations in which the prohibitions on torture and enforced disappearance were violated, such as the US’ war on terror and disappearances in the former Yugoslavia.
